PHIUS+2015 Climate-Specific Passive Building Standard

From Home Energy's July/August issue, written by Mike Knezovich, Director of Communications for PHIUS:In March, Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) implemented a new climate-sensitive passive building performance standard. PHIUS+ 2015 gives designers and builders a simplified, cost-effective path to resilient, comfortable, net zero energy buildings. The new metric generated healthy discussion in the existing PH community and has brought welcome excitement and fresh interest from newcomers. There is a tax credit available to homeowners who have walls insulated. The credits were continued last year in a budget deal to cover tax year 2014 and the amount is 10% of the cost of materials up to $500. Only the material costs count, not the labor. There are other credits for residential solar electric, solar hot water, geothermal heat pumps, a small wind energy system, and fuel cells, but I can’t find anything more for improving the homes building envelope.
