Cameron Millard replied to Kevin Eigel's discussion What is the best energy auditing software?
"I run an energy efficiency program and do energy audits and utilize Snugg software for my analysis and reports.  Snugg uses Optimiser to perform very accurate payback analysis when 12 months of utility bills are available (and still works…"

Cameron Millard replied to Carly@AirCycler's discussion The (Small) Cost of Ventilation Without Recovery
"Thanks for taking the time to address my points.  I will run your calculator and see what it comes up with.  Intermittent ventilation within a set time period like 3 hours can indeed be a reasonable way to bring in fresh air.  I…"

Cameron Millard replied to Carly@AirCycler's discussion The (Small) Cost of Ventilation Without Recovery
"While bringing in outside air can certainly work, I think there are some very important caveats to consider. Cost isn't the only reason mechanical ventilation with recovery is superior.  In newer, very tight homes, the increase in positive…"

"Air sealing can also provide an opportunity to reduce contamination from dirty attics and crawlspaces though, but you are right that ventilation is key which is why I think crawlspace fans are a good idea. "

Cameron Millard replied to Roy Sakamoto's discussion Whole house air leakage
"This jives with my experience trying to air seal a very small house - lots of caulk and foam and not much of a result (only a few hundred CFM after several hours of work).  Bigger homes seem easier to reduce in my experience."

Cameron Millard replied to Roy Sakamoto's discussion Whole house air leakage
"Roy, I have not tested for humidity post-retrofit, but that isn't a bad idea. I do know the crawlspace fan works to dry out the crawlspace; we had a client with a flooded basement and installed a vent fan which dried it right up in a few…"

Cameron Millard replied to Roy Sakamoto's discussion Whole house air leakage

90% AFUE Wall Mount Furnace

I run an energy program in the mountains of Colorado. We have a lot of homes without existing duct work and older style wall-mounted furnaces. I've been looking for a decent upgrade choice for my clients - so far Rinnai seems to be the brand of choice for most heating contractors.  Problem is they have an AFUE of only .82 at the max, so don't qualify for high-efficiency furnace rebates through our program.  I recently discovered the Energy Saver 90 Plus from Empire Heating, a direct-vent wall…See More
