Comment by Tom Delconte on August 1, 2012 at 2:18pm With all due respect, Dr. Chu has never had the pleasure of living in the real world. Most builders and most developments do not permit white roofs for aesthetic reasons. Also, Dr. Chu has never experienced the joy of going up on a roof on a yearly basis to wash the gray grime from it.
If Dr. Chu is willing to re-imburse the cost of a white concrete(porous is 10% more) to all of us and our clients, more power to him! I've had people laugh me off their driveway by mentioning that the DOE and the EPA want them to paint their driveway white! Is this brought to us by the same people that legislated "safe" freons, which contribute to global warming anyway, without understanding that a common gigantic US thunderstorm tears a hole in the ozone layer? Get a horse!
