Steven Winter Associates Inc., - Consortium for Advanced Residential Buildings (CARB) has taken an initiative to identify the energy benefits of various retrofit efficiency measures for a typical 1970's ranch home in ten different climates across the US. Description and images of the model home can be found on our website. The idea is to compare a typical 1970's home to the IECC 2009 code and suggest improvement strategies starting with weatherization techniques and proceeding with better HVAC systems, better insulated and tighter envelope and the most efficient HVAC systems available now.
