Thanks Diane,

I'm new to this site and I'm not computer savvy. I got a question for you.

A contractor just installed a sump pump with a french drain to waterproof an unfinished section of my basement. He used a waffle board along the walls to prevent any leak from the walls. I would like to finish this section of my basement but i"m not sure how to make my first floor joint air tight and at the same time ventilate the basement floor in case of radon gas. Where should I go for advises on this?

Thanks.

John

Thx Diane,

Don’t know Sean Lintow of Best Practices, though I know Matthew Redmond.  I want to ask you the same question I asked Matt:

I fear EFFECTIVE is something that may be overlooked as people suppose BEST PRACTICES are sufficient (necessary, yes . . . sufficient, no).   Will EFFECTIVE get lost in Best Practices, especially as regards doing effective air seal and insulation?

Seems like insulators need a spot to share their solutions to problems, much as occurs at heatinghelp.com.  Wife Cheryl and I do lots of follow-up inspections & here’s how we see the “Real World of Install” :

In our audit and follow-up independent guidance, and more-so looking at work people have had done before we are on-site, we estimate that, on average, people get about 70% of what is being paid for in programs that include an audit and follow-up inspection, and less than 70% of what is being bought in private work, outside of programs.  It's hard to figure out a percentage since some work is completed as agreed  but done poorly, some partly done, and in some cases payment is made for work that is entirely missing.   From the installers view I think we'd venture the biggest problem of having something less, or different than what the installer bills for is simply reality: it’s difficult to "ace" air seal and insulation work.

Also, I’m bizi & want to know what’s involved w/ a group.  Once started, what does the “starter” do?

Hi, Diane, Thanks for that welcome a while back.  Just was looking for a way to read Home Energy magazine on this site, as I BELIEVE that I could do before.  But now it seems that I have to subscribe.  I am not unwilling to subscribe, but I just wanted to see if I could read it for free on Home Energy Pros.  Am I crazy -- or am I wrong that the magazine was not accessible through this website?? Thanks, just checking on my sanity.

Hi Diane. Thank you so much for welcoming me. It's so nice to be a part of a great community. I'm sure I'm going to learn something in here.

Honestly speaking Diane,  I have high ambitions and dreaming to put my site to the higher level. The thing is, I'm lack of knowledge in green energy and I obviously do not have the time, anymore to keep really late hours. So I join this community and looking for some help from brilliant people, especially the one who has a greater interest in alternative energy.

To cut everything short, I'm looking for volunteers authors who would be interested in helping me producing a quality alternative energy articles for my alternative energy news website. Can I find someone in here Diane?
