SPRING CLEANING AND ENERGY SAVINGS

March 21st was the first day of Spring... Around my house, it really took the weather a few weeks to start agreeing with the calendar. Finally, the weather here in Middle Georgia has started to agree with the season. It is now time for shorts and t-shirts. Don’t forget the flip-flops, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Spring is also time for spring cleaning, too! In fact, I just packed up all of my winter shirts and pulled out all of my spring and summer shirts. It is time to tackle cleaning out the garage before it gets too hot. It is also time to tackle a few chores in the attic.

It is also time to gear up the house for the summer heat to reduce energy consumption and costs. We usually think about insulation and cleaning our heat pumps as the winter starts coming around, but it is just as important before the heat and humidity of summer hit.

So, where do we begin?

The best place to begin is with a home energy audit to identify areas of inefficiency. This audit starts out with an outdoor review of your house’s structure and issues that may be located. Then, we move to the interior for a room-by-room examination. After that, we will run a blower door test. This will help us find the quick fixes that can start helping you save money right away. We can seal a number of the air leaks that we find in your house.

Our audit will answer these questions:
  • Do you need to repair or replace drafty windows?
  • Do you have gaps around pipes and electrical wiring in your attic or garage?
  • Do you really need additional insulation?

At Synergy Home Advantage, we are passionate about helping you save money and be comfortable in your house. Our energy audit is the best way we can find out where your house is costing you money through wasted energy. An energy audit of your house can take up to four hours depending on its size.

Here are a few simple things you can do to help save money:
  • Install compact fluorescent bulbs throughout your house.
  • Keep your air filters changed at least every 30 days.
  • Install a programmable thermostat and make use of it.
  • Have your heat pump cleaned and tuned up twice a year in the spring and the fall.
  • Repair or replace drafty windows
  • Keeps drapes or blinds closed during the heat of the day to help keep the interior of your house cooler.
  • As they reach the end of their life cycle, replace appliances with ENERGY STAR® labeled models.
  • Make use of ceiling fans to stay comfortable.

Here’s to good energy savings around the house this summer. Even more... here is wishing you a great summer with family and friends.
