Important Tips to Reduce Electricity Cost

Electricity comes at a cost. There’s simply no getting around that problem (short of installing your own solar panels, of course). However, that doesn’t mean that you have to be stuck with high power bills. There are several ways that you can reduce the amount of your electricity cost – and they don’t necessarily involve turning off your air conditioner in the middle of summer, either.  Here are some excellent ways to knock those costs down.

Get a Smart Thermostat

One huge source of electricity cost is from heating and cooling the home when there’s no one home. Invest in a smart thermostat that you can program to go off when the family is out, and to come back on just before everyone arrives home once more. You’ll save a bundle by not heating or cooling the house when there’s no one home to worry about being comfortable.

Don’t Dry Your Clothes

When it comes to electricity cost, your dryer is a huge consumer. Just drying a single load of laundry can knock your bill up a good bit. Consider not drying your clothes – get a clothes rack that can stand in your laundry room, or invest in a clothesline and let your clothes dry in the sunlight and fresh air. Your bank account will thank you and your clothes will last longer as well (drying your clothes in a dryer actually shortens its lifespan).

Dishes

No one likes a sink full of dirty dishes, but your dishwasher might be a source of hidden electricity cost. If you’re running small or partial loads, stop now. Wait until you can fill your dishwasher completely and then run them. This will save on your power bill but it will also save on your water bill.

Switch Power Companies

For residents of Texas, one unique way to reduce electricity cost is to switch power companies. Deregulation means that you now have several different options (hundreds throughout the state), and these companies can offer some very appealing costs per kilowatt-hour. Switching companies allows you to pick and choose – you get to choose the company that offers the right mix of pricing, service, reliability and integrity. Of course, you have to compare your options here, and that can be difficult to do on your own, but using a third-party broker/aggregator site ensures that you get the information you need right away.Get reliable energy plans at competitive low rates from the best electricity company and reduce electric prices
