Help Rebuild Haiti and Get Profiled on Greenspiration Home!

Trish Holder

It’s been a chilly, uncharacteristically snowy winter here in North Carolina.  I have the luxury being able to sit in my warm “green” home and enjoy the beauty of these wintry transformations.

For my family and me, Mother Nature’s little surprises aren’t much more than that – little surprises.  Week after week, I can write about things like dual flush toilets, low flow fixtures, geothermal heat pumps, etc., without ever having experienced extreme discomfort due to lack of water, food, shelter or sanitation.  I’ve never experienced anything close to the devastation that a single hurricane season can render to a small, poor Caribbean country like Haiti.

Recently I was reminded of the stark differences between my reality and that of the people of so many third world countries. I owe this gentle reminder to one of my favorite charitable organizations, Food for the PoorAs I listened to a spokesperson for the organization describe the horrific conditions that the people of Haiti continue to endure after so many natural disasters, it hit me:  While I write about making homes greener, thousands of homeless Haitians sleep on cardboard and eat dirt to survive.

$3200.00 Builds A Home

In addition to trying to rid countries like Haiti from such dire hunger, Food for the Poor, has helped bring schools, healthcare, sanitation, shelter and so much more to the poorest of countries since it was founded in 1982.  Amazingly, the organization has maintained fundraising and administrative costs of less than 5% of its expenses; more than 95% of all donations go directly to programs that help the poor.

More recently, this interdenominational Christian ministry, which holds the highest ratings from Ministry Watch and the Better Business Bureau, has started doing something that really caught my attention.  They have have found a way to provide homes with sanitation to families in these poverty-stricken countries at a cost of no more than $3200.00 per home!

So I started thinking about what a small (tax deductable) sum that would be for some of the companies who frequently ask me to write about their products or services on Greenspiration Home.  I decided that for the remainder of 2014, I would profile up to ten companies serving the residential industry on Greenspiration Home IF they donate $3200 to Food for the Poor.   I will interview the company and write an article which I will publish on Greenspiration Home and promote through all of our social media channels--AT NO COST.

Mind you, I typically ignore requests for free exposure on my website.  After all, we need the advertising dollars to cover our own expenses, and trust me, this is more a labor of love than a profit machine.  But I’m willing to labor a bit more to encourage ten companies to help provide homes in Haiti.

How To Donate

Giving is easy.  Click on this link to make your donation on behalf of the Greenspiration Home Food for the Poor Fund.  You'll get credit, I'll be notified, and shortly you can expect my call to set up an interview.  If $3200.00 is too steep for you, donate what you can, and I will acknowledge your company as supporting our fund in a future blog.

Let's do this!!
