Q&A

We spoke with AZ Energy Efficient Home’s president Jonathan Waterworth, who started the company in 2009 after learning about the Building Performance Institute (BPI) while achieving his LEED accreditation. AZ Energy Efficient Home was one of the first companies in Arizona to provide home performance services, and is now the longest participating company in the state.

Macie Melendez (MM): Is this the company’s first industry award?

Jonathan Waterworth (JW): Yes, the 2016 Energy Star Contractor of the Year Award is our first award and it is very special to us for the fact that it’s validation for all the great work we have provided our customers and the hard work our employees performed for the past six years.

MM: What do you think makes your company stand out?

JW: I feel what makes us stand out is our customer service and delivery of performance. We ask our employees to treat our customer’s home like it is their own and to leave it cleaner than we found it. Our customers are always complimentary of our employees and that is an indication of success.

MM: What advice do you have for other companies in our industry?

JW: Give your personnel the ability to achieve their best and put the customer first.

MM: What one thing do you think is crucial to the home performance industry’s success?

JW: We have to have the participation from sponsors with strict quality control and high expectations so that we as contractors can continue to push the envelope while maintaining a high standard of performance.

MM: What does success look like for your company in 10 years?

JW: Success for us will be providing the continued level of customer satisfaction and performance while providing more services for our customers as the knowledge and technology in our industry expands.

Tried to share this through Facebook option, but it's not working. Will cut & paste, but just a heads up in case someone can fix this.

Congratulations AZ Energy Efficient Home! Well deserved. :) Jonathan Waterworth also helped to start an Efficiency First chapter in AZ to help successfully defend the energy standard here to save 22% by 2020, which drives the Home Performance program.
