Phoenix, AZ Residents Get an Electric Rate Cut in Middle of Peak Season

Thanks to low natural gas prices and renewable energy sources, Salt River Project (SRP) customers in the greater Phoenix area will receive a 3.7 percent discount on their electric rates for July and August, two of the hottest months of the year.SRP is the primary electric provider for Maricopa County, and their move to lower rates temporarily gives Phoenicians some relief from typically high electric bills. It’s no surprise that household energy expenditures put a considerable burden on low- to middle-income families, and a study correlated this impact by measuring the correlation between income and morbidity due to extreme heat or cold. The Centers for Disease Control and Protection published the results of the study that analyzed data between 2006 and 2010.
