"That would work but may I suggest one tweak - add at least another 1" piece under the first (offsetting seams from above) going from 1 web to the next also foaming all edges / seams. That should help eliminate any chances of any air leakage…"

"Thanks for the reply David! Rigid foam on the top probably would have been simplest, however I do already have my metal roofing up… Have you had any experience with this approach? Do the panels get screwed to the roof? Joints taped?"

"Thanks for the reply Bud! I replied to Sean above, what do you think of the idea of having no vent channel, instead having 2 inch foam pressed up under the roof deck with 12" cellulose below that? "

"Thanks for the reply Sean (and everyone else)! Have been crazy busy here with work… I'm in Columbia, MO. My original plan was to just fill up the cavity with cellulose, which would have been right at R50. But after learning more…"

"Cathedral ceilings have sloped roofs. These ceilings leaked air, heat and encourage condensation. In such roofs, insulation material is installed by maintaining a gap between insulation and roof sheathing. Add ventis ventilation from soffits to…"

"If there's not roofing installed yet, I would add rigid foam to the top of the roof deck, add tall fascia boards to match, install the roofing, and then dense-pack the rafter bays with no venting. "

"Hi Tony, I agree with Sean that the foam strips on the bottom of the I-joists may not be worth the effort, although it does also add 2 more inches of insulation.  I-joists don't suffer as much from bridging heat loss as 2x material. The…"

"Location??? Why do you have to vent? Foam for channel, enough to deal with dew-point issues - finish with dense packed cellulose No foam between bottom flange & drywall As you can't really do a ridge vent, just create it like you would for…"

"They said one hour firewall yesterday, seemed to leave it up to me as to how to do it. They are basing this strictly on the closeness of the property line, neighbors actual house is still 25 feet away, so I might fight it based on that. My guess is…"
