For too long there has been relatively little EE focus on multifamily, but some new programs have recently started. This group gives us a venue to share our experiences on cost effective audit & retrofit strategies and analysis tool needs.See More

Tom Conlon commented on Glen Gallo's blog post Building Science is not really science
"Good post Glen, and extra points for the provocative title! Of course there are plenty of actual scientists busily researching how best to optimize building (including home) performance.(You make this clear in your follow-up.) However, you're…"

Tom Conlon replied to Adin Maynard's discussion Realtor and Lender networking value for HERS raters?
"I think you are smart to be skeptical about this. Most Realtors are highly 'value conscious', and to date most raters just haven't been able to demonstrate enough of a value proposition beyond the range of services offered by…"

Tom Conlon replied to James McGarvey's discussion Mini Split Heat Pumps
"Here's another new study on mini-splits. 59% of customers who had them installed would recommend to a friend, and table #4 on page 6 has some interesting market share stats. "

Tom Conlon replied to James McGarvey's discussion Mini Split Heat Pumps

Tom Conlon replied to James McGarvey's discussion Mini Split Heat Pumps
"Though I am not personally familiar with these newest super-high SEER models, mini-splits are certainly a mature technology, just unfamiliar to us in the US. These were predominant in Jamaica when we studied the A/C industry there in…"

tedkidd replied to Tom Conlon's discussion Can HP programs afford to keep subsidizing all these free-riders?
"Hi Matt, thanks for engaging the conversation!   Since incentive must be defined and paid up front to arrive at net cost for the consumer, it would be based upon predicted.   The rest of your question could fill volumes.  In…"

Matt Stern replied to Tom Conlon's discussion Can HP programs afford to keep subsidizing all these free-riders?
"Ted, When you say pay incentives based upon energy saved, do you mean predicted energy savings or actualized energy savings?  In either case, what is your experience adn/or thoughts on selling around performance savings based incentives; and…"

tedkidd replied to Tom Conlon's discussion Can HP programs afford to keep subsidizing all these free-riders?
"I think performance guarantees in small scale is a very expensive proposition. Like spending $20 for a 3 year warrantee on a toaster. What doesn't disproportionally add cost but provides the same and possibly more confidence at the consumer…"

Tom Conlon replied to Tom Conlon's discussion Can HP programs afford to keep subsidizing all these free-riders?
"I like this renewed focus on savings actually delivered (what evaluators and policy wonks like to call "ex post" impacts). I've always been surprised more residential contractors aren't willing to guarantee the performance of…"
