'Shielding insulation'

Good morning all,We had a question come up on "shielding insulation." The description is as follows: "The Universal Shielding Insulation is used to reduce cold air infiltration into the dwelling and to provide additional protection against radiant heat from the chimney or venting system."That description is vague enough to make me very skeptical--radiant barrier skeptical. DHW thermosiphoning question

Good morning everyone, I was hoping you could help settle a debate. When choosing to insulate the cold water intake pipe on a HWH, is it necessary or recommended to insulate the pipe beyond the first elbow? While I recognize there are reasons to insulate the cold water pipes (condensate, etc.) our area of concern is for thermosiphoning only. Thanks in advance, everyone.See More
