I have a customer that has frost forming on the inside of his unheated garage walls.  I believe the cause is heat loss into the garage.  I suggested he turn off the humidifier on the furnace and…Continue

Frost on Inside of garage walls

I have a customer that has frost forming on the inside of his unheated garage walls.  I believe the cause is heat loss into the garage.  I suggested he turn off the humidifier on the furnace and control the RH in his house to help with the condensation.  I also recommended insulating the rim joist adjacent to the garage with foam. The first room when you walk in to the house from the garage is a laundry room.  Yes the dryer is vented outside.  The attic of the garage was insulated by the home…See More

Has anyone run into Dacotherm Attic Insulation?

I recently did work on a house that had this whitish foamy pebble like stuff for insulation in the attic. The house was balloon framed so it was also in the walls.  I have never seen it before and am wondering if there are any nasty chemicals associated with it. I also wonder if there are any health risks from handling it. I can't find a lot online about it. Any information would be helpful.

Chimney condensation in attic

I have a customer that we dense packed the attic floor of their house and airsealed around the masonry chimney.  The problem is the red brick chimney condenses in the attic. This has caused the floor around the chimney to heave and the ceiling below to stain.  The attic is 1260 square feet and is pretty leaky to the outside.  The customer states the problem has only occurred since we did the work.  Can any one give me some ideas what would cause this issue?…See More
