Joseph J. Ilacqua replied to George Whiting's discussion Retrofit insulation on the roof over cathedral ceiling
"I believe your best option is to deal with this when you have the roof off. I would suggest, if possible is to remove all of the existing insulation and replace with dense pack cellulose. If you achieve the proper density of 3.5 to 4.0 #'s per…"

"This method can work and I have done it. I can offer one suggestion to save time and materila. After you drill your hole stuff the equivalent of a 10# onion gad and dense pack the bag toward the rim joist. For the side of the basement that the joist…"

Joseph J. Ilacqua replied to Chris Heenan's discussion Can blown loose insulation be used in cantilever floor?
"Loose fill at this point will help, you have minimized the air movement with your air sealing and considering the delta T in your location you may be ok. Up where I come from it would have to be dense packed not loose filled.  "
