Why Don't Homeowners Spend Money on Energy Saving Upgrades??? Blame "Cognitive Biases"

A great transcript from a recent NPR "Morning Edition" broadcast about a recent California survey on water conservation efforts. The results are exactly what we find with energy conservation... When homeowners were asked what actions will save water, most said "taking shorter showers" (turning down the heat), or "keeping water off while brushing" (wearing a sweater) which of course is a complete mismatch of real saving efforts, like installing low-flow toilets (installing insulation).- which…See More

Is Geothermal Dead??

With air source inverter-based splits continuing to achieve lower outdoor temperature heat extraction, low operating costs coupled with high SEER ratings, I'm having a hard time trying to understand the applicability of Geothermal closed loop systems in the Northeast. Excellent PBS Energy Program Worth Watching

In case you missed it, PBS has been airing a series "EARTH: The Operators Manual".  The  recent episode which aired last week "Energy Quest USA" is well worth watching...

While many of us discuss methods and marketing for audits and retrofits, I believe it is the community neighbor-to-neighbor programs and activities that engage the homeowner and get results. The show profiles communities making smart energy choices based on economics and the environment. Below is a link to the…
