Jeremy Kays replied to Mike Kandel's discussion Pilot Period for Energy Auditor and QC Inspector Exams Closing in the group Building Performance Institute (BPI)
"I think this whole thing is a waste of money and any one spending money on it could just as well throw it out the front door. I have been doing energy audits for years and I have never been asked if I was BPI Auditor. I did take the class in 2010…"

Jeremy Kays replied to Bob Kretvix's discussion Is It Conflict of Interest for BPI Energy Auditors To Sell Weatherization Products and Home Improvements? in the group Building Performance Institute (BPI)
"I could not agree more. I have been in the energy auditing for 6 years and never once have offered the services to fix the issues. I do work with the home owner and there contractor on how to go about fixing the issues and it always works out and…"

A cold Kitchen

I was brought into this house that was only a couple of years old and the customer wanted to know why their kitchen was always cold. It is pretty obvious in these pictures. We also found a moisture problem that they thought they had fixed and about 5 other problems in the house. They are now working with the contractor to fix the issues after living in the house for three years. It just goes to show you pictures are worth a thousand words.RegardsJeremy Kays…See More

Jeremy Kays replied to A. Tamasin Sterner's discussion Combustion Appliance Testing Can Be Easy if You Understand What and Why You Are Testing
"Thank you Eric you are spot on and if I had it my way BPI and RESNET would take this out of their standards or put in their standards that this needs to be done but needs to be done by a licensed HVAC contractor who know how to work on the many…"

Jeremy Kays replied to TJ Ewing's discussion Furnace Blower Fan on 100% of the time - Good or Bad or it depends? in the group HVAC
"Most furnace blower fan motors are only 3/4HP to 1.5HP and only draw .5 amp to 2 amps at most. The coast of running that 24/7 a year is only $50 for the year if your electric company charged you $.09 a kilowatt hour. By turning it off and on with it…"

Jeremy Kays replied to A. Tamasin Sterner's discussion Combustion Appliance Testing Can Be Easy if You Understand What and Why You Are Testing
"Well I have yet to do a BPI Audit as no one around my area knows what that is or would spend the money on one. I always tell them if they make the fixes that I recommend they should have a HVAC contractor in to do the testing and the ones I…"

Jeremy Kays replied to A. Tamasin Sterner's discussion Combustion Appliance Testing Can Be Easy if You Understand What and Why You Are Testing
"I understand the importance of this type of testing, but what I don't agree with is the Energy Auditor doing it. I have done hundreds of energy audits and I can tell you combustion testing has no business in my practice. If one of my customers…"
