I was at a home last week where the customer showed me what happens when her she turns on her 4" LED lights. These were bulbs that were installed into existing recessed fixtures. If she turns the…Continue

"If it is an A-19 type screw base,  the fixture and wiring should be compatible.  The reason is that with an A-19 bulb, it was possible to place perhaps a 100W bulb in the fixture.. 60W common,  even with fixtures designed for…"

Energy Performance Does Add Value! Just look at the HERS Rating!

Trying to demonstrate to the unknowing that enhanced home energy performance translates into enhanced resale value is not an easy task. But actually it is right there in the HERS Rating!?

Even though most of us 'energy pros' understand that the increased comfort, health, durability, and lower energy bills means that the property should be more desirable and more valuable, it is hard to get this going due to the true way that properties are valued.

Are Energy Assessments a Commodity?

On the news today was the data showing the new Nissan Leaf will get 99 mpg. That is amazing! Is this a step in the right direction? Well maybe a little, but I think it is more a step laterally and not one that moves us closer toward energy independence. The way I am looking at this is that it gets the masses thinking about using less and getting more, which is the fundamental meaning of efficiency, but it is not without costs. If we don’t have a…
