Wondering what others think of Flir's infrared thermal imaging camera that fits on the back of an iPhone, and supposedly later this year, on Android phones.  I believe the price is around $350.…Continue

What happened to Home Energy Pro's website?

I assume it is because Windows no longer supports the old version of Internet Explorer that we use here at work, and to possibly work on mobile devices, but the appearance of the Home Energy Pros website on my computer is awful. The Home Energy Pro site looks "okay" on my phone, but I miss the open and friendly look of the original HEP website. Is anyone else having the same issues?Jim WhiteSee More

James White replied to Bob Blanchette's discussion How to determine HDD's and "savings" from furnace upgrade
"I would not paint all "high efficiency furnaces" as fraudulent based on this one instance.  It would be interesting to see before and after billing histories of other homes that have installed high efficiency furnaces."

James White replied to Bob Blanchette's discussion How to determine HDD's and "savings" from furnace upgrade

Peter replied to James White's discussion Smartphone Infrared Thermal Imaging Camera
"Great idea, but l would caution that using thermal imaging for diagnostics requires a good deal of training. Using the camera is pretty easy, interpreting the images in a useful way is not. That is why doctors send X-rays to specialists to read and…"

Professional Interests
I run the commercial and industrial energy efficiency program for our electric utility, but assist with residential conservation program as well. I am interested in all aspects of commercial, residential and industrial energy efficiency. Currently experimenting with Matlab and Simulink to model building energy consumption in ways that existing computer models cannot come close to replicating. Have also developed simplified methods for analyzing residential and commercial energy use and conservation potentials using monthly gas and electric bills, combined with average monthly temperatures and square footage. Former Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA)board member. Also interested in all things solar. I organized and started the world's only solar drag race. Working with local high school students, we will attempt to set the world speed record for a solar-only powered vehicle during the summer of 2011 at the Bonneville Salt Flats.
