Efficient + Disaster Resilient = Sustainable

Posted on August 28, 2011 at 12:00am 4 Comments

Picture a so-called “green” building in a floodplain.  Now picture a storm-hardened home guzzling gas like there is no tomorrow.

For me, neither of these conjures up an image of true sustainability.

By virtue of being built unconsciously (or defiantly) in harm’s way, a building is not durable and thus not (in my book) sustainable.  Similarly, a disaster-resilient building belching out greenhouse gases that any scientist worth their salt will tell you is contributing to present…

Efficiency Lives -- The Rebound Effect Not So Much

Posted on October 22, 2010 at 11:30am 2 Comments

While the following discussion (originally published in Climate Progress) extends to energy opportunities well outside the residential sphere, it's the latest example an overstatement of the so-called "Rebound Effect". Although there are certainly times that a portion of the…

Hi Evan,

Thanks for the personal welcome note.

Would it be appropriate for me to call attention to your new website on my "energyfolks" email list (with about 3000 members)? If so, could you write a short paragraph that I could just paste into my next blurb?
