Bradford E. White commented on CleanEdison's blog post 5 Common Mistakes of New Energy Auditors
"To Daniel Cullen- I agree, solid article. Also am in total agreement regarding low hanging fruit. No sense in fine tuning the hydrodynamics of an ocean liner with a gash below the waterline.  When doing a typical energy audit (blower door test…"

Bradford E. White replied to Kevin Wood's discussion HRV or ERV
"I agree with Kevin regarding the need for mechanical ventilation vs. relying on passive, uncontrolled ventilation though places you do not ask about in polite company. That aside, Venmar, Lifebreath, Fantech are, depending on model, fairly…"

Bradford E. White replied to Don Hynek's discussion Anybody know what this is??
"Looks to me like the top of a steam relief vent used to terminate the top of the vent pipe from a boiler feed unit receiver or pressure relief valve. The top was designed with a drain you can see on the side, this kept it clear of ice. The bulb top…"

Bradford E. White replied to Andrew Vidal's discussion looking for a good load calculation software. in the group HVAC
"I am partial to the Elite software line. I use their CHVAC for my commercial and institutional work but have not used their RHVAC residential/Manual J based product. The interface takes getting used to, not as "clean" as the types that…"

Bradford E. White replied to Al Heath's discussion Energy Modeling Software - what works??
"What about the standbys such as HAP or EQuest? And to what purpose will these energy models be used? If for rebate and specifically tax credit eligibility, the IRS publishes a list of those they will accept, at least for commercial projects. The…"

Bradford E. White replied to Silvie Votrubova's discussion Needed: Tips and tricks for duct testing
"SMACNA is typically the universal standard for sheet metal practices of course, but also have the standards for leak testing of any duct system.   There are various degrees depending on duct pressure glass, but most residences are not over…"

Bradford E. White replied to Sloan Ritchie's discussion Interior rigid insulation retrofit
"I probably should have been more clear, but yes, the new applied interior skin would have an appropriate class of vapor retarder. That said, if the edges are not sealed, even the insulation will not matter. Heat and moisture will go where it is not."

Bradford E. White replied to Sloan Ritchie's discussion Interior rigid insulation retrofit
"I have done both interior applied and exterior applied. Both of us will agree that exterior is superior, with inherently higher integrity. But reality dictates, so will not argue that point. When you say EPS, I presume you mean expanded polystyrene,…"
