Al Heath replied to Bryan Pringle's discussion Dense packed cellulose in basement?
"Really?  Go back and read these posts again.... "play ground for mold."  I once did a basement with open cell foam (still oil based but less toxic than closed cell) with a high-end moisture barrier behind.  Bottom line you…"

"My favorite was 2x4 directly on cement basement wall, with fiberglass, then plastic inside of that.  It looked like a total black goopy mess when opened 5 yrs after install and was given away by the black liquid (liquid mildew) leaking from…"

Al Heath replied to Larry Schaffert's discussion How to correctly insulate exterior wall in a 1900 house?
"tough, I wouldn't use spray to the back of the siding as you'll never get it off. I wonder if 2" board foam foamed in around the edges to hold and tighten, then glass, rock wool or cellulose the rest of the cavity. For a much better…"

Al Heath replied to Bryan Pringle's discussion Dense packed cellulose in basement?
"I do not put cellulose in basements... ever.  No matter how hard you work, vapor barrier are never perfect and once its wet you are done.  I don't use much foam, spray or board, but basements are a good place for it."
