Hi Green Jobs and Michael,

Actually IR capability has been around for quite some time, it's just that the powers to be made it illegal, well, at least more difficult.  Early digital cameras that started using silicone targets had to install an infrared filter to reduce their IR sensitivity.  Then along came the voyeurs who discovered all they needed to do was remove the filter and suddenly they could "almost" see through the ladies dresses.  It was that concern that forced the camera industry to change their manufacturing process so the conversions would no longer be possible.

Now fast forward to the falling prices of real IR cameras and suddenly the voyeurs will be back in business, especially if this capability is added to everyday cell phones.  I don't think it will take long for that "same old problem" to explode into revisiting just who should be allowed to look through the ladies dresses.  Remember how sensitive people are to security checks.  I can't possibly imagine the public, ladies in particular, being willing to be subject to IR inspection from every pervert walking the streets.

We will see if the smartphone industry becomes subject to the same pressures as the camera industry did.
