While performing an energy evaluation in my mixed humid climate zone, I found this scary alien living in an attic! This thing is a danger to energy efficiency and will definitely inject a poisonous bite into your utility bills when the daytime temperatures in its nest reach 130 degrees!

Comment by Michael Dunseith on March 16, 2013 at 9:59am It really doesn't look that bad considering whats out there. But looks can be deceiving! You could box them out with foam board and bring it inside instead of the whole attic.
Comment by Alex Walter on June 20, 2011 at 9:25am Attic is the number one location on my list of 21 "No-No Locations for Mechanical Equipment".

The only acceptable fix for these situations is to either (1) remove the all the mechanical equipment and ductwork from outside the conditioned space or (2) convert the attic into conditioned space by properly insulating its exterior so as to have it included inside the envelope.
