Foundation Thermal Sketch

This is here to point out the total lack of recognition of heat-transfer, we just patch up the problem with some insulation here, some vapor barrier there.

The foundation is hard to control for heat-transfer due the compression loads, can't say I've solved anything other than to ponder insulation that can handle the loads to replace the board joists are usually nailed that's anchored to the concrete. That would be a worthy new product for energy conservation in home construction.

Another I've thought of tho' is where joists are open to the interior floor, that first foot needs to breathe but my opinion needs to be stuffed with insulation with the paper torn off to allow breathing of condensation but killing direct air movement.

That area is like a chiller in winter, the cold air from the wood gets warmed enough right there to rise and creep along the floor above the typical insulation just from sag between it and the wood!!

As specie whom claims such intelligence, we do seem remarkably shortsighted
