I previously purchased a license for Wrightsoft. Now that they have gone to an annual support fee in 2011, they won't even give me a new license key when I reloaded the software on the same machine after a crash. I understand the need to charge for support services, but demanding a suport fee just to re-activate a key seems excessive.

Anyone have similar issues lately? I'm not sure that I'll renew their support just for the key activation. Other products are available and better for the non-hvac users like us.

They've got to be receiving a lot of push back for this because I've heard similar complaints from many of the folks in our Manual J classes.

I understand the fact that they won't be providing updates / technical support to users who haven't updated.  However, situations such as yours are different.  A crash is a crash.  They should be able to give you a key to the old version for no charge.

Maybe try calling and talking to one of the sales guys instead of technical support?  Have you talked to Gene Palandro? He's the national sales manager and may have the authority to make an exception to their update rules for your computer crash situation.

Kyle,

Thanks for suggestions. I'll give them a try and let you know how it works out.

Bob
