Hello everyone,

I am on the hunt for curricula for BPI installer/airsealing, AC/Heatpump, Multifamily, and Mobile Home certification. I'm curious what is out there, what other trainers are using, and how well you think the materials are working for you.

Currently I have looked at some samples from; Building Performance Engineering, Advanced Energy, Coastal Training Consultants & Inspectors, and Everblue. I also have seen some pretty good Nyserda materials, but I don't think they licence their stuff.

My current classes utilize Saturn Resource management for BPI BA/EP, Heating, and probably HERS rater training in the near future. I am very happy with them, and their system is working great.  Right now I'm just looking for more tools for my toolbox and I'd like to hear about other's experiences.

It's a big job, Kyle! I'm always a fan of sharing good resources. For our courses we use a combo of purchased materials, resources on the web, and our own stories from our experiences in this work. Each time we teach a course we improve it based on feedback from the students. We like to think our courses are fluid and dynamic, meeting each student's needs in flexible ways.
Hi Kyle! You can buy a license for various curriculum from NYSERDA, talk to Lori Clark. Talk to any of the WAPTAC listed training centers. WAPTAC is a good online resource for materials. WxTV has great videos to supplement most courses. At NYSWDA we use a mix of curriculum from NYSERDA, Saturn books and material we developed in-house. NYSWDA also relies on trainers with extensive field experience. Add hands-on training to round out the student experience. Talk to Matt Redmond at NYSWDA for more info.
Hey Kyle-

At South Seattle Community College, we utilize some of the Free WAP training materials. That being said, we have developed some curriculum of our own regarding Air Sealing and are hoping to have our weatherization lab evaluated with our props to meet the Air Sealing Technician Standard. Regarding Multi-Family, we have convened a regional working group that is developing materials that build off of the DOE WAPTAC goodies. Give me a shout and I will connect you with Ellen Gordon at SSCC and you can discuss use of curriculum. Since much of ours was developed through grant money, it is designed to be used by the public.
Thanks everyone, I am probably going to mutate the WAPTAC materials for my own use with installer training. I will also follow up with Lori, I've heard great things about NYSERDA materials and some nice folks at the AEA suggested I give them a ring too, thanks Dale!
The WAPTAC curriculum is very mutable. I also license my own curriculum that covers green building, weatherization, auditing and green jobs. I developed it for use by weatherization retrofit programs, YouthBuild organizations, Clinton Foundation HEAL Arkansas program and others. It's 70% hands on and focused on training in the field. I'm a recovering high school teacher and green builder, so I really needed to create an experiential curriculum to hold my concentration. I'm also a RESNET QAD and LOVE teaching HERS and performing quality assurance. You can download the My Green Jobs Curriculum guide for free here: www.organicthink.com. If you check it out, let me know what you think.

Our courses, classes and presentations are all custom designed for the students/attendees/audience.  Experience ranges from "curious" to "serious" and we tailor accordingly.  We've developed our own materials, based on our own experience and lessons learned.  We don't rely on Power Point (yawn) nor lectures, but mix it up instead.  Would be happy to share.

Kyle, We have developed and presently train multiple BPI certifications at our training center in Syracuse,NY. I personally do not like the NYSERDA curriculm except the multifamily which was developed by our sister training agency, AEA in NYC. NYSERDA's curriculm is available for sale outside NY state. Please contact me at mredmond@nyswda.org and I'll get you the contact at NYSERDA for licensing. Matt Redmond, NYSWDA Energy Efficiency Training Center
