A little clarification

In one of my discussions I said:  “The temperature of our RCC will always be 3 to 5 degrees of whatever the ambient air temperature is at that moment”.  This is true but applies only to exterior applications being hit by the sun’s solar  load at that moment.

When it comes to exterior applications, the coldest surface temperature reading you can get cannot be lower than the interior temperature of the building or piece of equipment it is applied to.

There are exceptions to that fact.

Example;  If you coat the exposed supply duct of a rooftop AC unit and take a reading at noonj on a sunny day, the surface temperature of our RCC can be well below the ambient air temperature at the time.

Example;  If you coat the exterior walls of a building and check the surface temperature at 3 AM, long after the sun has gone down, the surface temperature of our RCC will be lower than the ambient air temperature at that time.  It will also be lower than the temperature of standard white paint on the same wall.

Question;  How can a section of wall with an RCC painted on it be colder at 3am than a section of the same wall painted with standard white paint?

Answer;  Because the RCC coated section has not absorbed anywhere near the amount of heat energy the section with standard paint has absorbed. 

Interior example;  If the interior walls and ceiling of a room is coated with our RCC, in winter when it is freezing outside, the walls will be very cold to the touch.  However, the room will be and will feel much warmer than a room with standard paint.  However heat energy is produced inside the building, our RCC is preventing that heat energy from entering the walls and ceiling and being lost to the cold outside and in the attic.

Many learned experts will tell you that goes against the laws of physics.  I agree with that.  At least as the laws of physics are understood and accepted.

Here is another example of how an RCC can perform.

One of the painters for the East Bay Regional Parks District called me from his cell phone one cold winters day.  He told me the following; 

“We are painting the garage of one of the district’s houses in town.   It’s been vacant for several months.  The electric and gas have been turned off for that time.  It’s 40 degrees outside and the thermostat says its 40 degrees inside too.  We were going to do it in 2 thin coats.  We did the ceiling first then one wall.  That’s when we realized we were sweating, alot.  I took off my coat and my helper took off his sweater and we finished the first wall.  We were still sweating.  We decided to take a break and went inside the house.  WE IMMEDIATELY GOT COLD and went back for our jacket and sweater.  WHAT THE H--- IS HAPPENING HERE?”

I explained that they were working hard and their bodies were producing heat energy.  With the standard paint your body heat radiates out to the cold wall surfaces but the RCC is not letting that happen anymore.

They went back and forth between the rooms a few times and then I got another call from him.  He said he had just called his supervisor to come out and feel this difference.  She was bringing the man above her.

I said tell them exactly what I told you!   He then said  “OK but, this is some really weird crap you got here”.

I will never forget that conversation.  LOL
