New post on what I think is very important for home performance folks to understand--the changing local search landscape. Annually, one of the best local search guru's publishes the Local Search Ranking Factors report. This post is my interpretation of what it means for us. http://homeenergypros.lbl.gov/profiles/blogs/local-search-ranking-f...

Texas, Illinois, conneticut, Pennslyvania, New Jersey and New York are the first states to enjoy a No cost savings of up to 25% on Commericail Energy Bills.

Just a take a look and try it out. No information is saved unless you ask for a custom quote. http://www.bit.ly/fpPN5I

When I talk to customers about how much more comfortable that they will be with energy efficiency upgrades and get them away from thinking about ROI, I have much more success in selling it. It also helps to quote how on some previous jobs, that I have cut home fuel bills in half.

I think the first question is how we're framing the sales challenge: Are we targeting customers who want kitchen counters and aiming to persuade or convince them that, since the money is there, they should do something more important (by our criteria) instead? Or are we targeting customers who are looking to "invest" and aren't aware that energy efficiency is the better investment by their own criteria? (e.g., "I'll enjoy my kitchen more if I ...")?

Number one is a harder job, I think!

It seems most homeowners want lower energy bills, yet, opt to purchase(for example) a new marble countertop in the kitchen over adding 6 more inches of insulation in the attic. The kitchen they see daily, the attic they don't. Here's an interesting article I ran across recently regarding the energy efficiency market: Building Energy Efficiency Is a Hard Market to Crack
