Summary: The Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP) is looking for an individual(s) to conduct Dominion 
VA Power Home Energy Checkups in and around Reston, Arlington, and/or Alexandria. These home 
evaluations will include some direct installs (lightbulbs, powerstrips) and will help to educate and 
engage homeowners on energy efficiency in general and our program, Home Performance with ENERGY 
STAR, specifically. The Energy Coach is an important outreach position that requires someone to act in a 
self‐directed, responsible and professional manner. The successful applicant will be trained by LEAP. 
 
Responsibilities: 
 
 Properly collect critical field data to provide meaningful feedback to the client in the form of a 
“Home Energy Checkup.” 
 Keep good records, be punctual for appointments, and maintain a working schedule to keep 
pace with demand. 
 Manage time and effort accordingly and work in an efficient, safe and productive manner. 
 Keep LEAP staff apprised of customer responses and discuss any problematic situations that 
arise. 
 Find teachable moments to engage and inform clients concerning potential cost‐effective 
solutions to energy loss in their homes. 
 Attend weekly staff meetings, provide insight as to how checkups are going and report on 
progress. 
 
Requirements: 
 
 Be able to meet physical requirements of position: using a ladder, accessing attic, knee wall and 
 crawlspace areas to collect basic information. 
 General working knowledge of residential construction as well as knowledge of energy 
efficiency. 
 Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to help coach or lead the homeowner to 
taking the next step of getting an estimate done for an energy upgrade. 
 A “People Person” with demonstrable experience in sales, client education or customer service. 
 Comfortable interacting with a range of clients across wide socioeconomic backgrounds. 
 Reliable transportation, large enough to carry a ladder, and clean VA driver’s license – applicant 
must have their own transportation. 
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to learn and master new software quickly. 
 Can provide at least three work and character references upon request. 
 
Compensation: LEAP offers a team‐oriented, high‐performance environment with excellent facilities and 
a commitment to work/life balance. Compensation will be commensurate with experience; however 
applicant should know that LEAP views this as an entry level position. LEAP is prepared to assist the 
Energy Coach in getting the training and testing needed to become Building Performance Institute 
Building Analyst Certified.
