The HVAC Specialist for Elevate Energy will work primarily with the Energy Efficient Building and New Markets teams. Primary responsibilities include providing support for HVAC projects throughout the project process, which includes assessing current building conditions, determining appropriate recommended measures, developing scopes of work, soliciting bids, providing oversight of work, providing technical assistance as needed for projects, and assisting with contractor coordination responsibilities.

The position is based in Chicago, but will require substantial travel across Illinois.  The HVAC Specialist will be responsible for other related duties, as required.

Accountability

The HVAC Specialist will report directly to the Manager, Construction Services for Elevate Energy.  The HVAC Specialist will also work closely with our team of construction staff, analysts, project and program managers in the multifamily, small multifamily, nonprofit and new markets initiatives, as well as other staff.

Responsibilities

  • Attend critical meetings
  • Learn and stay current on project management processes
  • Complete assessments, scope development, bid review and onsite oversight for Elevate projects, which includes single family, multifamily and commercial buildings
  • Complete reports for building owners
  • Provide technical assistance for building projects as needed
  • Help manage contractor vetting process
  • Assist with customer services and contractor coordination duties as required
  • Support construction department performance management and metrics
  • Contribute to efforts related to outreach strategies and recruitment of property owners
  • Contribute to other Elevate Energy efforts as required
  • Work with Senior Manager, Technical Services to confer with supervisory personnel, construction staff, owners, and contractors, to discuss and resolve matters, such as work procedures, complaints, or construction problems
  • Other activities as required

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant trades training/apprenticeship and certifications preferred
  • Requires in-field experience
  • 2-4+ years of in-field experience working on the specification, design, installation and/or servicing HVAC equipment in commercial/multifamily buildings preferred
  • General contracting or working directly with managing contractors preferred
  • Vigor and desire to learn new processes and technologies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Willingness to be given instruction and follow through with production
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Desire to learn new processes and technologies
  • Strong understanding of construction detailing
  • Familiar with Excel/ Microsoft office required
  • Experience with Customer Relationship Management Software such as Salesforce or Construction Management Software preferred
