I was performing a WAP test-out when I found this. The insulation contractor didn't install baffles and didn't know enough that you can't cover up flame intakes with insulation.
From another WAP audit, this time a test-in. I actually said, "Wow!" when I entered the kitchen. The owner's adult daughter told me, "I've always grown up with hot water heater in the kitchen." Notice the backdrafting marks on the floor.

As for the kitchen vent hood, yes, looks burned. I didn't pay too much attention to it because it didn't have a vent and it didn't work anyway. BTW, I was standing under the access to the attic when I took the picture. It was right over the kitchen table. Weird.
