This image was taken by The Snell Group team member John Snell. It's an infrared image he captured last winter of a structure that had recently been insulated with blown in cellulose. With the cooler temps upon us in the North East I thought it was a good image to share!

egads - that's bad.  How about this one?

That's pretty bad too! We have lots of these photos so I'll find some others and post them as well.

Deanna,

Thanks for sharing this, it is truly rediculous. Cellulose is a great product, however like other insulation types, it really depends the installer.

John, I couldn't agree more! Here's one more, also taken by John.

Our team member Matt shared this photo with me. The image was shot after a weatherization crew had finished a job. Whole cavities throughout the home were missed or not properly dense packed with cellulose including the ones seen in the image. I think it's important to point out that infrared is helpful for not only quality assurance (from a customer's point of view) but also for the installer. Infrared can help crews to improve their installation skills ultimately reducing callbacks and saving time and money.

If you provide crew an IR, and they first use it in late fall, they will get some very 'weird' results. Remember you blow in the cellulose with outside air. I have done QA immediately after install on a cool November day and wrongly accused my guys of missing entire walls, only to come back the next day and find a miracle.
