OK, I'll be the first to reply to your request for comments on the EUC marketing and effect on our business.  This may not be happening at each county's EUC website.  But, EUC Sonoma County's website has produced on average two clients a month for HERS II Whole House Analysis for us.  Although it's not a lot, it's more than would have happened otherwise.

When the entire EUC contractor/rater database is functioning, It should be a help in finding clients who we otherwise might not serve.  For instance, some of these a individuals simply want a HERS Rating so as to know what can be done to save energy.  These people don't call because of incentives, rebates or PV/solar or funding  requirements.  Thus, the EUC "buzz" must be getting to some of the right folks.  However, the one thing that seems to get the sense of immediacy required for them to make the call, is our 75% rebate on the HERS II Whole House Analysis and Rating.  That's the result of SCEIP's Sonoma County Energy Independence Program having the foresight to secure a major grant for this work.

Now it's your turn to let us know what effect EUC is having on your business.

The proposed EUC marketing support to cover 50% of contractor's cost is narrow.  Things like social media and blogs that help drive traffic to contractor websites are not accepted by EUC.  However, marketing collateral such as flyers and door hangers are covered.  Unfortunately, the proposed print ad collateral only gives a business card size portion of total flyer/door hanger space to the contractor.  It make it feel as if the contractors are paying 50% of EUC Marketing costs not the other way around.

EUC Marketing program managers could benefit from taking a social media course offered at local universities so they could make better decisions when contractors apply for funds that have more significant impact than flyer and door hanger printed materials.  Which by the way add to landfill waste and are in no way sustainable marketing strategies.
