So BPI hired an engineering staff to evaluate these products or is the $5K fee proof enough the material is good?

Hi Robert, I am replying on behalf of BPI.

Products that are submitted to BPI’s listing service must first be evaluated by an ISO 17025 accredited testing lab. The lab results are then reviewed for product compliance to the applicable industry standard (e.g. ISO, ASTM, ASHRAE, etc) by our building sciences consulting firm that specializes in code and standards compliance. BPI contracts this work to our consultant and does not perform any work in house. BPI does not set standards for product performance.
