The original HEP Guidelines stated that the community is not to be used for promotional purposes. This was a natural way to begin, but as the community has evolved, we've provided a few specialized ways in which we support commerce:

  • Events: Training is an important part of a home professional's career development and members can post their training classes in the Events as a service to the community. We do make an effort to feature conferences, webinars, and other non-training events in the Featured Events section that shows up on the homepage. Some of these events are free, while others may have an associated fee.
  • Videos: Members have posted excellent training and educational videos produced by their companies and we support this.
  • Job Board: We provide a Job Board for members to post jobs related to all aspects of the home performance industry including energy auditors, technicians, and weatherization pros. There is also an RSS feed from the Efficiency First Job Board linking to their job posts.
  • News & Announcements: This is the place to post company press releases, news and other announcements.
  • Member Discounts: Share discounts and offers with members of Home Energy Pros in this group.
  • Energy Auditing Equipment for Sale, Trade or Purchase: This group is for posting equipment for sale.

Keeping the commercially oriented content in these special areas strikes us as an appropriate balance between prohibiting any and all commercial information and posting it in a way that readers can easily steer around it if they wish.

We've revised the Guidelines to include these exceptions.

Hello Diane ,

My name is Ronald Stevens from Sacramento, Ca and I'm very grateful for this information being shared. As our industry continue to thrive and evolve. This is an excellent tool for newbies like myself to really learn and see what's waiting out there for someone like myself. I'm currently still attending school as a BPI Residential Building Auditor. I just took the written exam last saturday and passed. I now have to do my field exam, for which I'm still being trained for another six weeks and then I take the field exam. One of my instructors, Scott Blunk, suggested we check out this online community and sign up. I'm happy he told us (our class of of 18). So all the help I can get is most appreciative.

Thanks again
