If your working in Connecticut as a contractor, you need to be aware of the following for your own protection and that of your clients.
Here's a couple of questions and answers many contractor's are not aware of if you work within Connecticut. Below are my questions and the answer received from the State of Connecticut.
Is it a State requirement for a building contractor to pull/apply for a building permit to install spray polyurethane foam insulation? Can an out of state contractor, not registered in Connecticut, perform the services on behalf of a registered CT contractor without a building permit?
I think I’m missing the question or that it is really two or three bundled together – if a building permit is required, then no services can be performed by anyone.
If, instead, the question is whether anyone can be a subcontractor of a CT HIC without being registered, the answer is yes. If they are an entity they may also need to have a certificate of authority from SOTS and, depending on the type of work, may also need a sales and use tax permit from DRS.
