We recently installed a Buderus high efficency direct vent condensing boiler in a closed furnace room. The homeowner reports significant unpleasant smells coming into the house. Ambient air testing does not show any by-products of combustion, and the company technician inspected the unit and says it is installed properly and operating properly.

The room is enclosed and gets hot. The smell seems to be off-gassing from the unit itself and from the copper pipes.

The install was over a month ago and the homeowner is still bothered by the smell.

Has anyone else dealt with this problem ?  What can be done?

It looks like this boiler could run a positive pressure inthe combustion chamer. There might be leakage in the boiler or the vent system. It could be smoke tested to visually find the leak. I have done this on other power burners. Not sure what the model is but here is a link ot a manual that you might get some ideas from.
