The New Zealand government today launched a home performance rating scheme where the home owner can rate their house based on certain criteria.

Thanks for sharing what is going on in your corner of the world. This proves that energy efficiency in homes in more than a growing trend in the USA. Energy Efficiency is a GLOBAL concern, and it will take global action to address properly.

It is a start. The challenge with New Zealand houses is that 2/3 of all the houses in NZ has little or no wall insulation. All houses built before the mid 1970s have little or no insulation. The NZ government was nice to contribute up to 1500NZD for those 1970s houses to be insulated. Those who utilised it, spent the money on sub floor insulation and roof insulation.
Lawrence Berkeley National Lab produced a similar tool called the Home Energy Saver. http://hes.lbl.gov/consumer/ Actually the market is saturated with tools like this.
