On Christmas eve I made it to Macy's to buy a present for my lovely wife. I looked up to see the sparkly halogens and was surprised to see some sort of LED unit was now in place of the 6" halogen can lights creating bright, clear white, sparkly light. I thought that there was no way anything was going to replace halogen to illuminate high value jewelry in a classy store like Macy's.

Can anyone tell me what brand of LED they are using? Whatever it is, it is pretty high quality. The coveted sparkle factor was definitely working.

A decade ago, I heard the owner of lighting retrofit company tell a customer there was no way they they could create sparkle like halogen in an energy efficient product. It looks like we have now truly surpassed incandescent.

Hi George,

A little info regarding Macys Leds  - Its likely those were PolyBrite - Borealis par -38s .

The lighting is from PolyBrite -Which boasts a par 38 made to meet their high end needs.

Macy does indeed have high standards regarding the quality & performance,

But for the SSL industry - thats good!

The Pars 38 narrow beam is not burdened with Dc / Drivers like most SSL 5 th gen Leds

They can get tremendous color fidelity in red /greens and have the best over all tech

out there- ( I use a variety of Borealis lights at my place) - This company which has been making

quality SSL products since the mid 90s.

People who want to buy a top tier product need to be looking at manufacturers with

track records and proven products in the area of SSL - there is a lot of crap -out there

for example Lights of America or Lsg  (@ Home Depot) or Feit - Its buyer beware for

folks just comin around to using Leds .

2011 will be the year that Leds finally take hold - I can only hope there are alot

of percerptive , informed customers choosing wisely!

Btw if you're impressed with the 2010 stuff you should see the stuff in the pipeline!

Its an exciting time to be in the SSL industry  , thats for sure!!
