How we halved our electric bills-- in 3 easy lessons...

It was as simple as this ; THE DUCTWORK - it used to let the conditioned air we paid for escape

though seams and gaps- we fixed that.

The lighting- as we live in the 21st century we use LED lighting exclusively- why do so many use ----

the same lighting products that were used a generation ( or half century ago) ?- we fixed that problem.

And all those other common sense things- vampire energy drains, using AC sparingly, not being an

energy glutten in most every sense- yeah we fixed those things!

It resulted in total energy costs of well under a $800 -Annually- that includes electric, natural gas, batteries- I believe 2010s TOTAL was about $700..00- I know it was only about $350 for my 3209 kWhs of electric!

Emulate and enjoy the savings,( & attendant benefits) and get others to do likewise!

Way to go Dennis. As a nation and a people, I think we owe Mr. John Tooley one huge pile of recognition for making the ducts the energy topic of note that he did. No other single component that hid from view has been so tremendously responsible for loss and for significant opportunities to secure. And being your number one item along with 2 other accessible measures, duct sealing whacked that expenditure in half! Yahooo.

I did a 5-minute study of light bulb temperature. I covered four bulbs with four half-gallon milk jugs and took their temps in 5 minutes. The 40 watt incandescent was 120; the soft white CFL (40 watt replacement for comparable lumens) was 80; the daylight CFL (also 40 watt repl.) was 80; and the LED 40 watt repl was 70 and all in a 68 degree room. I don't claim to be Einstein and my basement is not Harvard or Stanford, but the truth is as you well know, these improvements save around 75% of the juice, and their contribution is especially appreciated in the cooling season when their residual heat doesn't tax the A/C.
