In 2008 California introduced the nation's first green building code, known as CALGreen. Published initially as a voluntary code, it became mandatory January 1, 2011 for new residential and commercial construction. Green Technology magazine interviewed California Building Standards Commission Deputy Executive Director Michael Nearman to learn what updates are included in the CALGreen code revisions that go into effect July 1, 2012.

A host of environmental policies are rolling out in California, and as they are implemented, each presents challenges and opportunities. The education program at the Green California Summit will include a slate of sessions and panels over two days addressing issues of major importance to government, businesses, professionals and supporting organizations.
