We are looking at getting a portable AC unit. Is it possible to vent the heated exhaust air into a fireplace that will exit up and out the chimney. Or would I have to run the 5" flexible exhaust vent up and out the top of the chimney? The chimney is about 20' in length so was wondering if it would be a stretch for the exhaust pump to move air that distance. But seeing how hot air likes to rise, that might be a benefit. Thanks in advance.

just not much air flow.  5" pipe at .1 in water  is just 40 CFM  If bring it up to a inch water still just 1/3 ton at most.   Most AC unit in free air 2 ton system are in the 8,000 CFM range at very little SP .01 or less and still 15' spit.    I took a small 1/10 hp 240 volt motor out and put 24 inch pipe up 10 feet so to get hot air out of a closed in area, put back a one HP  to over come the SP.  ITs been working with out a compressor change for 8 years before 6 weeks till the compressor burned out with high heat. Heat kills.   Can you bump up the pipe size or out the side? to lower the drag?

What is the portable AC unit model information? What kind of fireplace is it?
