Event Description

North American Passive House Network 2014 Conference & Expo organizers have announced the program schedule for their September 22-23 event in Portland, Maine. Over 40 presenters from across the continent and around the world will deliver papers with the theme "All Climates, All Building Types, Passive House."  Local NAPHN chapter passivhausMAINE, will play host to this conference.

The keynote presentation will be delivered by the founder of the Passive House Institute, Dr. Wolfgang Feist, who will present on how the Passive House Standard is evolving to incorporate Plus Energy buildings with renewable energy sources.  In a recent press release on the new rating system, Dr. Feist stated: “A building that produces more energy than it consumes is not only possible, it is often very sensible.”

World renown German architect, Gernot Vallentin, of ArchitekturWerkstatt Vallentin  will provide the closing plenary presentation.  Gernot, with his partner, Rena Vallentin, was awarded the prestigious Best Educational Passive House Building at the 18th International Passive House Conference in Aachen, Germany.  They are most well known for their organic forms and playfully designed school projects, which integrate seamlessly into the landscape.

The Passive House Standard has come to represent a universal level of quality and performance.  It is this quality and universal applicability that will be showcased at NAPHN14 in Portland, Maine.
